Collection: Juneteenth Collection

Juneteenth is a holiday that commemorates the end of slavery in the United States. It is celebrated annually on June 19th and originated in Texas in 1865, when Union soldiers arrived in Galveston and announced that all slaves were free. This announcement came more than two years after President Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation, which had declared all slaves in Confederate states to be free. Juneteenth is now recognized as a state holiday or special day of observance in most U.S. states and is a time for reflection, education, and celebration of African American history and culture.
